I used to always be in a battle with myself about period products, my main priority is to be comfortable and confident that they are effective, however, my personal morals wanted to choose environmentally friendly options too. If this sounds familiar, I have found some solutions! In this blog, you will find eco-conscious period brands, bear in mind everyone is different so you may want to try a few
For each brand, there is a list of their products and certifications, it should be noted that whilst certifications do not translate to a sustainable business, they can be useful to verify claims made by the company. If you are unsure what a certification means, have a look at the ‘Be Certain About Certifications’ post to learn more!

Hey Girls’ main focus is helping those in poverty receive the period of care they deserve, for every purchase, the equivalent is donated. They offer wholesale ‘home packs’ which are designed for schools, hospitals, workplaces, universities, shops etc.
Many organic and eco-friendly shops sell similar, independent products so make sure to check those out too! For example, Another Weigh, located in the Lake District, is a zero-waste shop, offering many bathroom essentials including reusable cloth pads.
If you are looking for the most sustainable option, the menstrual cup is your answer! They are reusable, require few materials and resources, and have minimal emissions. However, these can be a bit like marmite, you either love it or you hate it. It’s ok not to be fully sustainable, it is more effective when more people engage in some way than for a small number of people to do it perfectly. We don’t live in an idealistic world, so we cannot expect such change. However, if you can and are willing to make a switch when it comes to period products, sustainably produced pads and tampons use significantly less water and remove the use of non-renewable resources.
